Manga’s Mini Treats

Imagine a little bit of sugar, a pinch of spice and of course, you know the rest...The nice part. Mix all of those ingredients together and you get Manga’s Mini Treats, brought to you by none other than, Jeaketa Manga.

I had so much fun talking with Jaketa, it was hard to limit all of our girl talk. I tried, so here it goes!

1. Why did you start your own business?
Manga's Mini Treats started as an outlet for my creativity, while working in corporate America. I have always loved making things. As a child, I started with fashion design. I felt like my Barbie dolls did not have enough to wear. I made them outfits from old t-shirts. Fast forward many years later, I am unable to find the perfect dessert for my daughter's Minnie Mouse party, so I baked cupcakes and put them in the shape of a bow. It caught on like wild fire, and the rest is history.

2. What about baking drives you?
You are putting ingredients together that do not taste that good by themselves, to make amazing treats. It is so rewarding to see the finished products.

3. What was it that brought you to the decision that this is what works best for you at this particular moment in your life?
In a manner of speaking, I feel like the Lord had to kind of push me to this decision. The department I was working in at the time was closing and you had two choices. We either had to move to another state or find another job. Neither of those choices were appealing to me, and I knew this was confirmation that it was time to truly step out and trust God.

4. What does your time management look like and how do you prioritize? (Mom, wife, entrepreneur, servant of the Lord)
So I feel like some weeks, time management is out of the window. I believe I have found a routine that works. I get up with the kids in the morning for school, and after they leave I start my day. If I have to bake I start that first, if not I take orders or work on my to do list for the day. So far since school has started, so good. I will let you know if this changes.

5. Have there been times when you have looked in the mirror and decided to go back to bed because you were not certain about your chosen path?
There have been days when I questioned myself. If I have a difficult customer (has only been one or two) or if the order is just a challenge. Normally, I just push through, but afterwards I go to bed.

6. Who are your influences?
Oh definitely the Lord. I cannot do this without Him. There are people I admire but none of them influence me more than He does. But if I had to choose people, I would have to say a few other home bakers have inspired me to keep going.

7. Have your influences helped define you? If so, how?
Just the fact that they have opened successful bakeries and have not given up.

8. What can you say to the one woman who might be reading this, who has tried to build her brand and juggle a family and business and who is now tired and does not feel like there is enough time in the day to devote to everything and everyone?
I would say to her... DO NOT GIVE UP. You owe it to yourself and your family to fulfill any dreams and desires God has given you to do right now. He will show you what you are supposed to do and give you the timing on when. Don't be discouraged by anything around you. It has taken me years to realize a lot of the dreams God gave me as a child, but I intend to continue going forward and so should you.
